About

Four years ago, Emily and Dan met in the departures lounge of an airport. By the time Emily had sat down in her seat on the plane she knew that if life is a snow globe, this is the moment hers had been shook up.

They moved in together eight months later. But something was missing. The house was too quiet, there was no chaos in their lives and their furniture had no teeth marks in it.

Enter Mortimer.

Four years on, the snow in our globe is still falling. And we can’t see it stopping any time soon.

Thank you for stopping by to read about our adventures!

  1. Hi Emily
I just found your blog and had to join to find out about Morts capers.
But I have to say I LOVE your apron! I know it was a gift but any idea where it came from? I need one!
I have three dachshunds; Sadie (15 1/2, she moved to England with my husband and I 8 1/2 years ago from Texas), Lottie Belle (8, she was my 40th birthday present) and Daisy (4, my husband let me breed Lottie Belle and keep one puppy for another birthday.)
Can’t wait to read more about Mort
    Thanks
    Holly

  2. Hi, Emily. Happy New Year. I love reading about Mort. Thank you for sharing. I have an extra small miniature dachshund named Noel. I got her for Christmas 6 years ago. She is black and tan like Mort. My sister has a dachshund and my sister-in-law has a dachshund. I love crazy, quirky dachshunds. I also have a Miniature Pinscher named Lola. Noel was my first little dog. She is 2.9 kilograms at 6 years old. I will never be without a dachshund. Just so you know you are not alone my husband and I both had bad colds for Christmas. Have a wonderful new year. I look forward to more about Mort.

  3. Thanks for liking my blog! Even though we had a baby two weeks ago and our blog is suddenly a lot more baby-centric, we have an insane number of posts about Goobers the Wonder Dog, our 5 year old doxie. Mort is so cute!

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I was delighted to see a dachie! When I was about ten I drove my neighbour to despair. I offered to walk her dachie, Bijou. Every Day. I think she thought I would stop coming by after a few days but I didn’t! I didn’t understand why the nets twitched when I climbed up her steps! Hello from both of us, Ted and me!

  5. Hi Emily,
Just a quick note to say how much I enjoy your blog. I have a mini black & tan and she’s quite the character. Her name is Daisy Mae Wigglebottom and she is the light of my life. She never ceases to crack me up. She’s feisty, sweet, adorable and VERY manipulative.
I have such fun reading about Mort and his adventures. Thank you so much for all the smiles and giggles you and Mort have given me.

  6. Hi Deborah, thanks so much for your lovely message – it cheered up an otherwise very dull day in the office! I’m really glad you enjoy the blog – its so nice to hear that it makes people laugh. Can I just say – Daisy Mae Wigglebottom is quite possibly the best name I’ve ever heard! She sounds lovely – and a typical Dachshund, by the sound of the traits you have listed. I’m hoping to put together a blog soon of all my readers’ dogs – it would be lovely to include yours. If you get chance, email me a photo to: emilycole5@hotmail.com and I will make sure she is included :) x

    • With my help Daisy Mae was able to get some pics emailed to you. The delay was my fault, she was very eager to get them sent right off. She’s thinks Mort is quite the handsome fellow. Thanks for asking for them! :)

  7. Hi Emily – thanks for stopping by our House! I’m glad you liked the picture of Opie and Gizmo. There will be many more to come. Mister Mort sure is one handsome dude! When I was little, there were three Dachshunds in our family – Duke, Heidi, and Corky – who looked just like Mort. I’ve enjoyed what I read of your blog so far. Looking forward to reading much more!

  8. Hi Emily,
    Thanks for getting in touch.
Bubs and I would indeed be honoured if you featured our blog on your website. We really enjoy your posts and wish you well with the new (ad)venture.
As an aside, I’m a desk editor by trade and if you wanted me to cast an eye over any content before its published online, I’d be happy to do so. Its always difficult to proof read your own work. Just an offer, please don’t feel obliged to say yes.
    All the best,
    Clare (Opposable Thumbs) & Bubs

  9. Hey! I love the blog. We went to Daschunds UN today – I think I have some pics of Mort if he was Slovenia! Send me an email or joint the Dachshunds in London FB page to see them/get a copy if you’d like (although you have some fab ones here). My Ern was Ghana and you have a nice one of him barking – love a copy…

    • Hi Sara! Yes Mort was Slovenia-he was up there for the first 10 mins ish. Of course I will send you that picture-my email is emilycole5@hotmail, just let me know yours and I will send it straightaway :) if you could send me the ones of Mort that would be amazing. Dachshunds in London looks amazing-I want to move to London now!!

  10. Hi!
My boys (LandShark and Murphy, a couple of minis) and myself love your blog. Hope you don’t mind I’ve placed your link in our list of favorites on our page. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading all about Mort’s adventures and love the pics you’ve posted about the Daschund UN, too funny. As long as you keep posting we’ll keep reading!

  11. Hi Emily

I work in the RSPCA’s campaigns team and am contacting you because as a dog lover and owner I thought you might be interested in the work I’m doing on a new puppy contract designed to protect puppies and their new owners.

I’m also keen to build a longer term relationship with you, and maybe help provide some content for your site and blog, spreading the word about the RSPCA’s campaigns, if that sounds good to you?

Drop me a line and let me know if you would like further info!

    Best wishes

  12. Your blog is wonderful and so is Mortimer! I can totally relate to the Reign of Terror. I actually flew from Chicago to Portland, Oregon, USA and back last week to collect our 8 week old black and tan standard doxie. Good Time Charlie acts and looks just like your Mortimer as a baby – so cute it is hard to be mad at him. Charlie’s favorite things to do are 1) try to eat my computer cord and the understuffing of the leather couch and ottomans 2) bite my 3 year old granddaughter’s feet – she says, ” save me, save me” – and 3) wake us up with pitiful cries every 2 hours in the night. Please give an extra treat to Mortimer from Charlie and keep writing your blog.

    • Hi Valerie, thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m so glad to hear you enjoy our blog. Charlie sounds gorgeous! Mort also has a tendency to try and nibble children’s feet and steal their socks – very strange! I have given Mort an extra treat – give Charlie a cuddle from me and Mort, and keep in touch – nice comments like yours make my day :)
